When travelling abroad or just to a class, it can be very useful to have a brush case. A vast improvement over its most popular rival the carrier bag(!) a brush case will protect brush hairs and prevent the shape of the hairs from becoming damaged in transit. Some brush rolls have a towelling inner lining to help dry out the hairs if they are placed in the case still wet. Brush easel cases fold into a little pyramid that allows the brushes to stand upright – this can be really useful when working as it is quick and easy to identify the brushes you are looking for. Brush Washers are most useful for oil painters – they are metal pot that one can pour solvent into, and there is a removable filter insert, that is usually made of mesh, or a piece of metal with holes in it. As you rinse your brushes in the brush washer, the dirt from the brushes will sink through the filter to the bottom of the pot, which allows you to keep the majority of your solvent relatively clean for prolonged use. At the end of each session, it is worth decantering the clean solvent to another vessel to use again, and then remove all the dirt from the bottom of your brush washer. This will allow you to use your solvent for longer. Our brush soaps, including ones by Da Vinci, Escoda, Daler Rowney and Masters, contain natural oils that prolong brush hair life whilst still effectively removing oil based, acrylic based or water based paints.
