In our canvas making art accessories section you will find everything you will need to successfully make your own canvases in your home or studio. Pliers allow you to get sufficient grip on your canvas to stretch over a frame – and achieve tautness simply not achievable by hand. Just make sure you get the tension even across the whole surface. Staple guns make fixing your canvas or linen to your frame easy – just fire the staples to the back of the frame at regular 2-3 inch intervals. Roberson tacks allow your canvases to have a more traditional look as well as extra tension in the canvas – just hammer these into the sides of your frame. Once you have successfully stretched your canvas you will be ready to prime – acrylic primer can be applied straight on to the cotton or linen, but an acrylic or rabbit skin size needs to be applied prior to priming with oil primer.
