Water Mixable Oil Colour is oil colour that has been manipulated so that water can be used instead of turpentine to thin the colour and no solvents are required for cleaning or thinning purposes. As with conventional oil colour, the drying time is relatively slow, which allows artists to work with the colour over a number of days. The Winsor & Newton Artisan and Holbein Duo Aqua both stock mediums which can speed up the drying time, or increase the matt or gloss of the colour, or increase transparency without altering the consistency of the colour. These are also compatible with Jackson's Aqua Oil colours.
It is important to note that water mixable oil colour is not compatible with acrylic colour, and that mixing it with conventional oil colour will alter how water mixable the colour is.
