These cotton art boards, in my view, have a perfect grain on them - just enough to have a bit of tooth on the surface. Slightly absorbent surface, which allows for all kinds of painting styles. Relatively light, good for painting on out of doors. If you want to make sure they will not warp (which they can do over time, or if the back gets wet!) you can glue some bracing to the back which will prevent this from happening. By Lisa
