Colour is learned from reality, through observation... The painter's task is somewhat like the alchemist's: transforming inert matter into the perfection of his work. This goal was particularly apparent in the work of Gianni Maimeri. He wrote in his diaries, 'What you call a delightful flower, I call a harmony based on rose lake, pale blue, white and pale yellow, slightly cooled by a touch of emerald green. Yet it never stops to be a flower'. To Maimeri, matter was colour and colour was matter. The ongoing investigation and transformation of his painting, of colour as matter and of himself led Gianni Maimeri to produce two great works: a large corpus of beautiful paintings and a paint manufacturing company which carries on with this work and his ideal: producing colours that meet all artists' needs...
