George Politis RI AWS mainly paints in watercolours and acrylics and lives in Thessaloniki in Greece. He works in several media, but he prefers watermedia for their transparent and luminous results. He also likes to paint miniature artworks. His paintings have earned him many awards, including the “Commended Award in Watercolour”, “Best Watercolour” and “Best Mixed Media” at the International Juried Exhibitions, Australian Society of Miniature Art in Australia; the President’s Award , the Da Vinci Award and twice the “Award of Excellence” in the Arizona Watercolor Association Members Shows (2001, 2007, 2011). He has participated in the Royal Institute of Watercoulour Painters’ famous exhibitions in London (2000-2013) and has been a signature member of RI since 2006, as well as a signature member of the American Watercolour Society (AWS) since 2006. George Politis got in touch with the Jackson’s Art Blog to tell us more about his Grecian watercolour workshops.
Working in small and large format, we’ll be painting in watercolour (but may use other watermedia like watercolour pencils, acrylic inks and collage), learning techniques and most importantly learning to see and find a subject (often far from the obvious). I have devised this workshop with the aim of boosting creativity with new inspirational ideas and winning techniques for an once-in-a-lifetime experience. All levels of painting experience are welcome. Both beginners and advanced participants are welcome since individual attention will be adapted to the needs and personality of each student. There will be a maximum of 12 students to insure quality instruction.
Every morning I will start with a demonstration and we will all paint together (9 am – 1 pm). Afternoons will include more painting and time to enjoy the local life and landscape; evenings will be a mix of group discussions, dinner parties and free time. There will be a maximum of 12 students to insure quality instruction. English, French and/or Greek speaking participants are welcome, but painting will be our common language.
We will paint the breathtaking rocky scenery of Zagoria and Meteora, the magnificent nature in Zagoria and Ioannina and we will explore Epirus and Thessalia from a point known only to locals. Thus, we will be able to find out more about the culture and cuisine of one of the most spectacular areas of the world.
