The inaugural ArtFest will open this weekend in Wokingham, transforming the marketplace into a vibrant one day Outdoor Arts Festival celebrating the work of local artists. This first edition will include events such as an art market, free art demonstrations and art competitions.
Founded by British artists Mick McNicholas and Connell McMenamin, ArtFest intends to provide a platform for artists to showcase their work and interact with the public in Wokingham. “There aren’t a great deal of arts related events happening in Wokingham, which is a major reason we set up ArtFest in the first place, in an attempt to enhance Wokingham’s cultural landscape”, explains artist and Co-Founder of ArtFest Mick McNicholas.
Over fifty professional and amateur artists working in 2D and 3D will be exhibiting and selling their original artworks and limited edition prints as part of the Art Market. Local schools will also be displaying art work by their pupils in a dedicated community area.
“We hope to not only entice artists and public from outside of Wokingham to our event, but that ArtFest will also act as a focal-point for all artists in and around Wokingham to celebrate (and help make visible) the thriving art-scene that’s right on their doorstep,” comments Mick McNicholas.
This event promises to be a lively one as Wokingham will also be celebrating the Queen’s 90th birthday on the same day.
The ArtFest 2016 will take place between 10 am – 6pm on Sunday 12 June 2016.
