The shortlist for our October Oils Competition was so strong that it really was difficult for Jackson’s judging panel to choose the overall winner. The range of subject matter and techniques that were used within the entries really helped to showcase the versatility of oil paint – from bold expressive impasto landscapes to ultra-fine detail and layering within a portrait.
Jackson’s judging panel have chosen the first prize winner (winning £150 worth of Jackson’s vouchers) and after one week of voting, the public have chosen their 3 winners who each win £50 worth of Jackson’s vouchers. We would like to thank everyone for submitting your work and to those of you that voted for supporting and promoting the artists that entered!

‘This has been a long haul – three years on and off. When I first saw the image I loved the reflections on the wet pavement and the unusual angle it was shot from, and felt that I had to add it to the series of trainers painting that I had already created. The liquid reflections were particularly difficult, but I think I’ve pulled it off pretty well.’
