Brighten up your spring with this bold geometric scarf<\/strong>

You will need:
\nColourist heat transfer paints<\/a> (from Jackson’s Art Supplies)
\n1.4m x 55cm plain satin georgette polyester
\nPaintbrush
\nWater pot
\nTwo pieces of A1 thin plain paper (or smaller pieces to be stuck together)
\nPencil
\nGlue stick
\nPins
\nIron
\nIroning board
\nSewing machine
\nOld towel\/blanket<\/p>\n

1. Glue two pieces of thin A1 paper together\u00a0to form the shape of your scarf. Stick the\u00a0paper along the short edges so you end up\u00a0with a long rectangle.
\n2. Using the template on page 83, draw\u00a0out the design onto the paper leaving\u00a0a small plain boarder around the edge.\u00a0Alternatively, create your own design \u2013 you\u00a0could be inspired by a pattern in a fabric,\u00a0or by something you\u2019ve seen in a book or\u00a0magazine. Simple repeat patterns look great\u00a0and geometric shapes painted in bright\u00a0colours can be really effective.
\n3. Decide on your colour palette.\u00a0There is a wide range of\u00a0Colourist heat transfer\u00a0paints to \u00a0choose from but\u00a0you might want to use\u00a0these to mix your own.
\n4. Place a small amount of heat transfer\u00a0paint in a palette or saucer and paint\u00a0directly onto your drawn out design.\u00a0Wash your brush between colours to avoid\u00a0them merging.
\n5. Once you have painted out your whole\u00a0design leave it to dry for an hour or so.
\n6. Pin your painted design face down\u00a0onto the fabric. Ensure it is secure so it\u00a0doesn\u2019t shift whilst you are ironing.\u00a0Try and pin along the unpainted edge,\u00a0as any interrupted painted areas will stop
\nthe dye transferring onto the fabric.
\n7. Using the hot setting on your iron add\u00a0pressure and move the heat across the back\u00a0of the painted design evenly for about\u00a03 minutes. Continue this across your whole\u00a0scarf until the design is clearly transferred.\u00a0The ink can transfer through the fabric\u00a0onto the ironing board cover so it is best\u00a0to protect it with an old towel or blanket.\u00a0Once your design has transferred it will\u00a0be fixed and can be washed.
\n8. Finish off the scarf edges by ironing them\u00a0flat, turning under by 1cm and 1cm again,\u00a0pin and sew all around.<\/p>\n

Tips:<\/p>\n

1. Look in magazines and books\u00a0for design inspiration. Creating\u00a0a visual board of collaged images
\nbefore you start drawing can really help\u00a0get your creative ideas flowing.
\n2. Before you start painting your final scarf\u00a0it\u2019s a good idea to try out the paint colours\u00a0on a small piece of sample fabric.
\n3. Use newspaper or a protective cloth\u00a0on your work surface to stop the\u00a0paint seeping through the\u00a0paper and leaving\u00a0a stain.<\/p>\n
