The Collection 48 Watercolour Set from A. Gallo is a unique and versatile palette featuring 48 handmade half pans in a metal watercolour tin. The set includes two mixing surfaces and a colour chart printed on Arches watercolour paper. Each half pan is wrapped in watercolour paper with a hand-painted sample brushed over it. The Collection 48 Set includes a Tintoretto size 0 traditional mop brush and a handmade Italian linen bag, and is beautifully packaged with original marbled paper by the Florentine artisan workshop Giulio Giannini e Figlio.
Made by hand in Assisi, A. Gallo watercolours are crafted according to a traditional recipe of raw pigment, gum arabic, local honey, rosemary essential oil, and a wetting agent. This artisanal process creates a very pigmented and luminous paint that activates beautifully when wet.

I've only used a few of the paints and while they are okay, I wasn't particularly bowled over by them. I have a lot of top brand paints so was expecting something outstanding.Rating
I do know I wasn't impressed with the packaging. In fact, I was annoyed by it.
The tin is fine, it's the type that is easily available empty. Each pan of paint is pushed inside a seriously thick tube of paper which is glued tight. This is okay if you can push the pan out of the paper but many were stuck and even when not stuck it was so hard to push them out that I was having to use the end of a brush! I had to resort to scissors to get the paper off many of them and it was difficult to say the least. I don't know if Gallo used superglue or what! I was in danger of breaking my nails or cutting myself to get to the paints. Why Gallo? Why?
Gallo provided a small swatch card printed on Arches paper (French paper for an Italian product?) so buyers could test the paints on them. Great idea but the card was very small and didn't have details on relating to lightfastness, opacity, staining etc. In fact, if there is any detail with the product relating to the properties of the individual paint I have yet to find it even with a magnifying glass! The pigments are noted on the pans but otherwise nothing.
had to hunt on the internet for the paint properties information as I could find no such colour chart on Jackson's website. Such a colour chart does exist, I saw it on a website but the paint properties were so blurred that was no help at all! I went onto Gallo website and there was no search facility so I still couldn't find it. I can, however, find the information if I use Jackson's website and look at each individual paint and make a note of it.
So, no information easily available as to the properties of the individual paints BUT you do get the tin palette in a linen bag, and the tin is also covered with a high quality thick pretty paper. Why? Okay if you want to give them as a gift but do people need a linen bag and a thick paper wrapping more than they need to know how to get at the pans and what the paint properties are?
