Shellsol T is an odourless mineral solvent which is a popular alternative to turpentine for cleaning brushes. It can also be used to dilute oil paint and mediums. It will take between 6-8 hours to evaporate and must be used in an environment with adequate ventilation. It will evaporate for oil paint films entirely. Shellsol T has a 60°C flashpoint.

The container needs the pouring neck to be pulled out, using the butterfly handles on the screw cap. Then unscrew the cap, remove the seal, and pour.

Been using this stuff for a bit over a year now. Very low odour, cleans brushes great and mixes to make a decent medium as well. Not quite as silky as proper turpentine but makes an excellent replacement - feels much, much better than nasty old white spirit. At the very least, worth trying it out if you aren't great with solvents or have to use something low odor for a class. (Posted on 29/08/2017)
