Daniel Smith : Watercolour Paint : PrimaTek Set : 5ml : Set of 6

This set includes six 5ml tubes of Daniel Smith Primatek Watercolour. PrimaTek Watercolours are made from minerals, often semi precious minerals, that have been ground into pigments, mixed with gum arabic (the binder) and milled into PrimaTek Watercolours. The first was Lapis Lazuli Genuine in 1998, since then, many more have been added such as Amethyst Genuine, Piemontite Genuine and Serpentine Genuine. Most of these colours have wonderful granulating effects that some artists have called 'magical'.

Good value for the set, and only one colour I won't use now that I've swatched them. The granulation on the hematite is so intense that it's almost impossible to get a smooth wash or blend on it, so it just won't suit my style of painting, but the others are gorgeous, and to be honest, I was only tempted to buy some of the PrimaTek colours at all after I got one of the dot swatch cards which let me try a few of them. Unsurprisingly, the consistency straight from the tube can be quite thick and uneven, so if you're squeezing them out into pans as I do, you'll probably need to mix and prod them into place with a pick - they don't settle with a gentle tap or two. definitely worth trying, thought some of the colours I wouldnt use but have found it interesting. I havent used all the colours but have enjoyed swatching and have ready for experimenting (Posted on 28/07/2022)Rating - Review by Deborah
I previously tried a number of the Primatek colours including Rhodonite (which I use a lot of) and loved them but wasn't sure about ordering this set. i decided to take the plunge as I was Intending to buy the piemontite and jadeite separately as well as replace my tube of Rhodonite. I decided that for not much extra outlay I could try 3 additional colours. I am so pleased i did. I was not expecting to enjoy the amethyst and mayan blue as much as I do. Really pleased with this selection ...... if i could make a change it would be to swap the Hematite for Hematite Burnt Scarlet..... but its no big deal. (Posted on 03/02/2020)Rating - Review by Feefo

Oh my goodness! What amazing sparkly watercolour paints! I played with them the entire afternoon on the day they arrived.Rating
They blend well with other paint colours as well. (Posted on 24/04/2019)- Review by Feefo
Well, let's put it this way; I now know what colors I will be using for the next few months. Excellent pigmentation and appealing granulation in most of those (Posted on 04/02/2019)Rating - Review by Feefo

FABULOUS COLOURS, BRILLIANT RESULTS! (Posted on 10/01/2018)Rating - Review by Jo
Lovely set to try a range of Primatek colours. I really like the hematite (which is mostly black/grey, very little brown in it). I'm a bit disappointed by the Mayan Blue - nice colour, a bit weak. However, I've squeezed the paint into a half pan and on drying it's reduced about 50% in volume! It would be far too expensive to use. Might try the Mayan Dark Blue instead.Rating
Amethyst - it's a beautiful colour with sparkly bits :) (Posted on 03/05/2017)- Review by Feefo
Lovely colours - a watercolourist can never have too many of those subtle shades. The colour dissolves really well and goes a long way. (Posted on 23/01/2017)Rating - Review by Feefo
Rhey look great although I have not had a chance to try them out yet. (Posted on 25/01/2016)Rating - Review by Feefo
Beautiful paints, all are transparent and granulating. Piedmontese is reddish but has unusual bluish granulation, amethyst has silvery sparkling specks. A gorgeous set - I hope they will increase the number of primatek colours sold in 5ml tubes (especially lapis lazuli and the turquiose, please! (Posted on 23/10/2015)Rating - Review by terence molloy
