Daniel Smith Extra Fine watercolours were released in 1993 and are among the most popular watercolours used by artists across the world.

The 200+ colours in the range combine ancient hues and precious minerals with the most modern developments in paint technology. Daniel Smith strive to produce watercolours with the best possible lightfastness and permanence.

The PrimaTek colours are made with genuine minerals, finely ground into pigments. Many are semi-precious minerals, such as amethyst, hematite and lapis lazuli.

The Luminescent range contains four different types. Iridescent colours reflect light like a mirror while Interference colours refract and scatter the light. Duochrome paints bounce between two colours depending on the light source, and Pearlescent colours add an opalescent shine.

Daniel Smith’s products are not tested on animals. The only animal-derived ingredient is the pigment PBk9. PBk9 is found in the following watercolours only: Sepia, Ivory Black, Joseph Z’s Neutral Grey, and Payne's Gray.

Daniel Smith will forever be my number one choice when it comes to watercolour. The pigments that these watercolours offer are like no other and the unique range they offer will forever get me buying more; with over 260 colours to collect I will forever be adding to my collection. The beauty of Daniel Smith’s colour range is that there are so many unique colours that you cannot find in any other brand. There are beautiful shades like: Moonglow, McCracken Black, Lunar Blue and Sleeping Beauty that are hard to match and recreate without buying the colour first-hand.
The vibrancy and pigmentation of these colours means that a little goes a long way which explains the pricing. I have had a few dot-cards that really help show the spectrum of colours to test out and use in your artwork. It helped me find a cost-effective way of using the colours as the dots last a long time too. The paint in the pans I haven't had an issue with cracking either unlike other watercolour pans. If you are looking for the most professional and superb watercolour paint - choose Daniel Smith!!
