At Artools tradition meets innovation in a range of products for printmakers who like to push the boundaries of tried and tested methods. New products like protecting varnish, varnish for aquatint, gel medium and soluble lift ink allow for exploration of new techniques and have the advantage of preparing plates in less time.
Artools Soft Black Ground, or roller varnish, is applied to the bitten plate with a roller and is used to ground the plate’s unbitten surface enabling further etching to take place. By rolling the ground across the surface of the plate, those areas already bitten will remain uncoated. Further biting of those areas can take place and at the same time the ground can be worked into on the plates surface to develope the image further.
