I have searched the internet for studio palettes which will take at least 20 colours and where you can fill empty pans with your own colours squeezed out of tubes. These are absolutely the ONLY ones available which fit the bill - apart from going to Craig Young or John Hurtley and having a copy of James Fletcher Watson's palette hand-made out of brass - for about £300. Tin easily holds the 24 full pans including White Night pans which appear to be slightly different in size to most others.

An excellent palette. It holds up to 28 full size pans, 7 on each row. i think the empty pans sold by Jacksons fit better than the pre filled pans. Fitting 7 full size pans on a row stops them sliding, which could be a problem (alternatively you can just press the metal inwards to hold the pans more tightly). I'm very happy with the quality and the weight. The palette has a thumb ring; this is not shown in the photos or video. I've bought many palettes over the years, plastic and metal, small and large, and this is the best one yet. (Posted on 20/08/2015)

I agree with the reviewer who said this box was a bit flimsy compared to a winsor and newton metal box. It is. Plus I had trouble getting my half pans (sized for my old winsor and newton box) to stay in place under the metal clips in this one. They are just a little bit too shallow and slide about. I had bought a few empty half pans from Jacksons to fill with colours I hadn't had room for in my old box, and they were a better fit, except for one which slid, too. At the moment I am feeling a bit disappointed as I had been hoping to get all my colours arranged and ready to go. Instead I think I am going to have to buy 30 or so new half pans from Jacksons into which I then transfer the contents of my old W&N pans, before I can say I'm sort of happy with it. (Perhaps I just like the familiarity of my old much-used box too much to start again with a new one, however keen I am to organise my colours...!). (Posted on 20/08/2015)

I bought a similar empty box (the one for 12 tubes) a while ago and was very impressed with the quality. I was a little disappointed when I got this 48 half pan box, though. The quality of the enamel and the metal half pan insert are good but the latch on my box does nothing to keep it shut. Unfortunately my box was also slightly damaged when I received it (looked like it had been squished a bit in post), but fortunately I was able to push the lid back into the right formation. Overall it will do the job in organising my odd coloured half pans, but since it won't stay shut, it looks like I won't be able to use it in the field, unless I find a rubber band to put around it or something.
