Gesso is made from a mixture of hide glue and chalk ('whiting'). It is an inflexible ground which is used to prepare rigid substrates such as panels and boards for oil paint, encaustics, egg tempera, silverpoint or mixed-media. It produces a soft surface that is more absorbent than an oil or acrylic primed surface, and can be sanded and burnished to a smooth finish.
Available in 500 ml, 1000 ml, 2500 ml & 5000 ml.
