Asphaltum Powder is the pulverised form of a natural resinous hydrocarbon. It is a raw material for the printmaker, a basic ingredient in the making of etching grounds and stop-out varnishes and it is highly acid-resistant. It can also be used in place of rosin powder to make a grained aquatint. The fine grains have less tendency to spread than rosin. Lawrence Ashphaltum powder is soluble in turpentine and white spirit.
