In printmaking pumice powder can be used to grain or polish a plate prior to degreasing. The fine abrasive powder will remove minor scratches and create a slightly grained surface. The plate can be polished to a smoother finish with finer abrasives if no plate tone is required.
Pumice Powder is also used to provide tooth to grounds.
