Info
Schmincke Liquid Charcoal offers a clean, dust-free method for artists working with charcoal. It is watersoluble, so you can adjust the values from very light to deep, rich blacks or earth colours. Liquid Charcoal can be used for thin underpainting (e.g. in oil painting). Subsequent layers of paint will not altered any more than conventional charcoal underpainting.
Three of the pigments in the range are made by charring fruit seeds, which results in different hues: a neutral Peach Stone Black; a warm, brownish Cherry Pit Black; and a cool, bluish Grape Seed Black. The range also offers three Liquid Earth colours – Umber, Sanguine, and Chalk (for coloured backgrounds). These are made using natural earth pigments. All colours are vegan-friendly.

Lush product, can't wait to use it
From my very sketchy first experiments I think I've found the black I've been looking for. It's a deep rich black when used undiluted and then you can dilute it for washes. I can see myself using this A LOT! Thanks Schminke. Now can you do me an opaque buff white to use with it?
Useful for toning paper
Interesting product. So far have used it diluted to make some nice evenly toned paper for charcoal sketching - painted on then rubbed in with a dry sponge. Lifts to make highlights, not as easily as charcoal dust but less messy. Have also used it for sketching with a brush, a bit like watercolour or dilute Chinese ink. Suspect has a range of uses (including underdrawings, as recommended) and look forward to experimenting.
