Pastelmat is a premium card surface (360gsm / 170lb) specially developed for pastelists. Its unique velvety surface, made from a fine coating of cellulose fibers, has the ability to grab and hold multiple layers of even the softest pastels.
Pastelmat significantly reduces the need for fixative, which means that colors remain vibrant and fresh once applied. It has the added bonus of being gentle on both fingers and blending tools. It is acid free and lightfast.
Pastelmat is ideal for use with all dry media - pastel sticks, PanPastel, pencils and charcoal. It is also water resistant which means that it can be used with wet media – such as acrylics and watercolor for washes and mixed media techniques.
This Red Label Pastelmat Pad contains twelve Pastelmat sheets; three each of dark grey, light grey, maize, buttercup.

A great surface for pastel. In fact I only use this and Velour as I do a lot of wildlife and pet portraits and for getting A LOT of amazing detail and not worrying about fixatives and to get texture with lots of layers this is the only surface to use. I was a little worried about ordering it from here as I live in Australia but it was delivered in great shape. Now I wish I'd ordered more in one order. Will definitely be back for more. I just wish Clairefontaine had pads in this size of the dark grey color as that is my 1st choice of all the colors.

Might be my favourite pastel paper, along with Mi-Teintes Touch. I think the latter blends better, but the velvety material of this one grabs the pastel beautifully without eating up the pastel like the Fischer.
