An excellent purchase. Often travel brushes are sized incorrectly (smaller than stated) but this is a good size 6 sable brush.

I had high hopes for this brush, it has no point at all, blunt fat point, do yourself a favor and get a escoda reserva, too bad because I love the handle, what a waste of 24 usd

good brush

I bought this brush and the Escoda Reserva (ER) 6 travel brush because I was looking for a single workhorse brush for daily sketching (A5 size) and I didn't know which one to pick. Caveat: I'm new to watercolour. I agree it's harder to get a point on this brush but it is possible to get fine lines. With the ER, the brush hairs look almost cut to a point whereas this DV is more of a "soft" round. In spite of this, I prefer the feel of the DV; it's a little more lush. The EV has a bit more spring and is a wee bit smaller, perhaps between the 5 and 6 in the DV.

The hairs of the brush kept separating - even though I had just wetted the brush and ran it over my cloth.

I am new to watercolor and this is the first and only Kolinsky Sable brush I own. I feel it is useless as it;s almost impossible to get a point with it and has too many stray hairs for trying to get an even wash with. Squirrel brushes (blend/synthetic/natural) can hold much much more water and yet hold a better point and shape. Regular synthetic brushes (even the ones from the same line) hold a point and are able to take more abuse. Maybe I got a bad one. The build quality of the handle is the only thing I liked.

great products and good to have such a broad product range to compare

Very compact and useful for travel, but the brush does not keep it's point when dry. You first have to wet it and form to a point before screwing back into protective casing, otherwise the hairs will become trapped and damaged.

As with the larger brush this serves its purpose well. Handles beautifully.
