Maybe I was unlucky?

A few months ago I bought a number of different cold pressed blocks to try out brands I’d not used before. I was really looking forward to this as I’d heard very good things. Unfortunately it wasn’t as great as I’d hoped. There was hardly any tooth to the paper, making it feel like a hot press so I wasn’t able to get the effects I liked. Further the gum used to secure the two sides was welded on so strongly that trying to remove any sheets from the block cleanly was near impossible. I worried for the sturdiness of my palette knife and I’ve ripped right into every single page…after having painted on it :( Again, maybe I was unlucky with the one I’d received, but this paper is for practice only now. Such a shame.

This is my favorite watercolour paper! Compared to Arches it is slightly less textured and softer to the touch. If you like a smooth surface for pen drawing, but still want a cold press paper that easily gives you nice and even washes - this might be the paper for you.

I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE this paper! It is heavy enough to accept plenty of layers for those that enjoy glazing, and it’s durable enough that you can apply pressure with your brush the scrub colour off if need be without ruining the surface. I bought the hot press block and got the cold press in the A4 size after I finished my first piece. I really recommend giving this paper a go.
