Info

Whilst named to acknowledge its Prolene legacy, the ‘Plus’ represents something special. Still purely synthetic, Prolene Plus employs fibres which are somewhat softer and exude a feel much closer to natural hair. The resulting filament color, having darker tips, looks even more like sable hair than its predecessor. It has improved color holding and pointing properties.

Set in a beautiful ferrule which is plated with gold. Polished teak handle completes the brush.

Prolene Plus brushes are great!

I have loads of unused watercolour brushes that just haven't worked for me. So I looked into brushes a lot before landing on Prolene Plus. I bought 3 Rounds to try them out – #7, #10 and #16. They have all been very good buys. The looks are a bit deceiving, as when they are dry they appear to not taper to a fine point. But get them wet and watch the magic happen! The tips become sharp, and they stay that way. All sizes have a great capacity, and only drop a little extra paint drops at the ends of strokes – but that happens only with a saturated brush. A brush that is loaded, but not overly so, will drop only a tiny bit, if at all. The brushes have spring, yet the bristles are soft. This means the sharp tip stays, yet the brushes handle loops very well – and that's saying a lot for a synthetic! Actually, they've done very well with all types of brushstrokes that I've tried with them over the past year. The only downside for me (which might be an upside for another artist), is that the smaller the size, the longer the bristles are in proportion to the width. As I don't like long rounds, this is a bit of a bummer for me. But in the real world, it doesn't seem to matter much with these brushes. They perform for me very well as is. I am happy … and there'll be no more unused brushes for me! I forgot to say that the bristle dimensions for these brushes that are stated on this web site are totally whacky! I reported the errors a year ago, but Jackson's has not bothered to change them. So ignore them – just know the the actual sizes are normal-to-generous.

This is a wonderful watercolour brush for me

I have a huge collection of brushes I will never use again. After looking at a lot of brush reviews on the net, I decided to try this Prolene Plus Brush. I was not disappointed! The size 10 is generously sized, yet it comes to a very sharp point at the tip. And it keeps it sharp, even after considerable use. The liquid retention is excellent, as is delivery on the paper. It's springy, yet the bristles are soft. It has everything I'm looking for in a good workhorse watercolour brush. I am back for more brushes in this line.

This will be my new go-to brush. I usually work with size 2 but this size 3 comes to a nice point. Pro Arte has an ergonomic handle and the synthetic bristles resemble the softness of natural fibers.

This brush is great for creating a clean thin controlled boarder around-an object, that can be filled in with a large Size 6 brush. I prefer the feel of this handle compared to Rosemary and Co watercolor brushes. Pro Arte has an ergonomic handle. The bristles also resemble the softness of natural fibers

Although the handle says short length it's longer than my Rosemary and Co, Shirley Trevena, Kolinsky Sable watercolor brushes. I prefer the feel of this handle to Rosemary and CO, Pro Arte has an ergonomic feel to the hand. The bristles also resemble the softness of natural fibers - might be my new go to brush. They are less stiff than Escoparla's synthetic fiber water color brush.

I really like Prolene Plus brushes: they’re long lasting and have excellent handling properties, e.g., clean, chiselled strokes when you want them, plus excellent wash-laying properties.

I am a learner and had no art teaching at school except painting by numbers. Until now used squirrel mops. This is a wonderful tool, broad and fine strokes

My first Pro Arte brush. I wanted to get a Prolene Plus for a while after hearing good things about them. I'm very impressed. Holds point perfectly, retains plenty of water and paints beautifully. Thinking of getting a larger size now since they are so good.

These are the only watercolor brushes I have ever bought that actually shed hair, not just the size 10 but all the sizes I got. For the couple of years that I have been painting I have mainly used mid priced synthetic brushes, so it is not like I am used to top quality. It is really weird that ProArte does not bother to put enough hair into the ferrules, there is certainly room for more. I did some comparing and noticed that the Escoda brushes I have that are cheaper than these have no empty space between hair and ferrule as you bend the hairs. I thought all brushes were like that, but no. Otherwise these brushes are ok.

I use the Prolene Plus Series 007 for oils - I won't buy animal hair brushes and the synthetic oil brushes are too coarse for most of my detailed work. These are good value, though I regularly have to replace as with oils they understandably lose their fine point over time.

This is an excellent brush for watercolour. Synthetic brushes are holding their own these days with sable brushes. The quality and handling are great. No one should fear buying them.

This is such a classy brush to use, it really looks and feels great. Thankfully it does a good job too. The Prolene Plus seems to hold a good amount of fluid (for synthetic) and it keeps its shape really well. The brush has the familiar synthetic spring to it (which I quite like) and the way the fibres are shaped it is able to do relatively fine work or big washes fairly easily. For my controlled washes and wet-in-wet (where a flat brush isnt helpful) this is my 'go to' brush
