With both internal and surface sizing, these papers have exceptional wet strength that supports the application of multiple washes. Similarly, just as the paper's sizing retards water absorption, pigment stays on the surface of the sheet. The result: remarkably glowing color.
Stillman & Birn bindings are equally rugged. The hardbound bindings - stiff when new - are designed to be broken in. The spines get eased in and then lay completely flat, accomodating both two-page drawing layouts and flatbed scanning.
Bound in the United States, this sketchbook system offers artists a choice of three paper surfaces:
• Vellum – distinctive tooth, suitable for all dry media, and will also accept multiple washes
• Cold Press – Substantial tooth, enhanced wet and tear strength, suitable for multi-media artwork

DEFINITELY WOULD NOT BUY AGAIN! Buy Seawhite of Brighton also sold buy Jacksons, they are FAR SUPERIOR. These are nicely bound but the paper of the larger ones is not up to much irrespective of the groovy promotional video. Seawhites are much better sized and I have actually done a side by side comparison test and Seawhite come out on top.

I read several reviews which convinced me to buy this sketchbook. And it was worth it! The paper has a nice density, a nice tooth, the pencils leave a nice stroke. Also when it comes to erasing, that's probably where you'll notice the difference. Erasing is easy and paper suffers almost no damage. I haven't tried any watercolor washes yet but I've seen the paper lying flat after drying which seems pretty incredible with 150 gsm. This is a quality sketchbook!
