With both internal and surface sizing, these papers have exceptional wet strength that supports the application of multiple washes. Similarly, just as the paper's sizing retards water absorption, pigment stays on the surface of the sheet. The result: remarkably glowing color.
Stillman & Birn bindings are equally rugged. The hardbound bindings - stiff when new - are designed to be broken in. The spines get eased in and then lay completely flat, accomodating both two-page drawing layouts and flatbed scanning.
Bound in the United States, this sketchbook system offers artists a choice of three paper surfaces:
• Vellum – distinctive tooth, suitable for all dry media, and will also accept multiple washes
• Cold Press – Substantial tooth, enhanced wet and tear strength, suitable for multi-media artwork
• Smooth – Suitable for pen & ink, colored pencils, water-based markers as well as watercolors

Lovely for pen and ink and pencil, ok for watercolour. Eased the book in to lay it flat but this split in between the signatures slightly which target spoilt this pages

Haven't tried the paper yet but I'm little bit dissapointed about how the paper is folded! Many times when i tried to open the pages completely, the binding glue detaches leaving some ugly signs, preventing the possibility to draw on both pages! I haven't noticed this issue on the 8.25 x 11.75in A4 zeta format!

Very happy with the look and feel of the book. Lovely smooth pages I can't wait to have a go on!! This book has come highly recommended which is why as a group we chose it for our book exchange project. So glad Jackson's stock it in the UK; I'm sure we'll be back for more!

Haven't started to use it yet but it seems to be fine. I hope it will open open 'flat' - I have noticed one 'problem' comment about this issue!
