Oil-based primers are used to prepare a surface for oil painting and are not suitable for acrylic or watercolour paints. They are generally made from Titanium White pigment, China Clay and a binder of Linseed Oil and Alkyd Resin. Oil primers should only be applied after a surface has been sized with rabbit skin glue or acrylic mediums. Apply with a soft brush in several thin layers, leaving 12-24 hours between applications. This will create a bright, slick surface which tends to be slightly warmer in tone than most white acrylic primers.
This category contains a number of different of oil primers, as well as other supplies which can be used as grounds or sizes.
Available in 500 ml, 1000 ml, 2500 ml & 5000 ml.
