This natural ink stone has a flat surface for grinding ink sticks into liquid ink.

Fill the well (the deepest end of the ink stone) with a little water. Drag water from the well on to the plain (the flat area) and then rub the stick on the stone plain to produce ink particles suspended in water. Continue until the water turns into a dark ink.

The size of this ink stone is 12 x 6 x 2.2cm (4.12 x 2.6 x 0.14 inches).
