Gamblin : Gamvar Picture Varnish : Gloss : 125ml
Gamvar saturates and gives greater depth to the colours in your painting and gives your work a unified and protective semi-gloss surface. Developed in collaboration with the National Gallery of Art, Gamvar goes on water-clear, stays water-clear and can be easily and safely removed with Gamsol. Gamvar is virtually odourless and ready to apply.
Gamvar can be applied when the thickest areas of your painting are thoroughly dry and firm to the touch. Brush apply. Do not spray.

I came across this product quite by chance while trying to find out how to avoid brush strokes in my varnish, and I am so glad I did. I had pretty much ruined one small acrylic painting with a black background and had a 20" x 30" one to do which is to be given as a birthday present. The thought of messing it up was awful. The varnish arrived this morning and I did a sacrificial piece with it. It's not sacrificial any more, it looks beautiful. I'd watched the video showing how to apply it and I was quite amazed to find it really was as easy as they made it look. I poured out about 5ml but just one dip of the brush covered an A4 canvas face and sides. I used some of the rest to recoat 3 other pieces in as many minutes and what was left went back in the bottle. It had no discernable smell, so no headache followed its use. I won't be using anything else from now on, this stuff is worth every penny but because I needed so little it actually works out much cheaper than other varnishes I've tried. Very thin layers but by the time it is dry the middle seems bare of varnish and the edges are very thick with varnish. The paint surface is flat. This has happened on two paintings. I don't understand what is wrong or how to fix this (Posted on 19/05/2019)Rating - Review by Feefo

Very very good varnish you can use as soon as the paint is dry. Imparts an even, high quality gloss which isn't too shiny. Dries fast. Very liquid. Compared to Winsor Newton Artists' Gloss varnish it dries much more evenly. Gamvar doesn't have any odor, but I think it contains odourless mineral spirits which affect my skin severely so I use it outside on a breezy day. (Posted on 07/02/2017)Rating - Review by Feefo
