The Palomino Blackwing Volume 200 Limited Edition Coffeehouse set of 12 pencils is inspired by the Fibonacci sequence, a series of numbers that approximate the Golden Ratio. The Golden Ratio is a mathematical ratio often found in nature, art, and design. When applied to the arts, it becomes a tool for creating balanced, organic works and helps apply composition and symmetry to the world.

The Golden Ratio can be heard in the arrangements of Beethoven, Mozart, and Bach. It can be felt in the syllabic patterns of Sanskrit poetry. It can be seen in the works of artists and architects from Salvador Dali to Frank Lloyd Wright.

The Fibonacci-inspired design uses the width of each colour block as the sum of the widths of the previous two colour blocks: 1, 1, 2, 3, 5, 8, 13, 21, 34, & 55. Palomino have designed it in millimetres and then scaled the design up to a 1:1.175 ratio to fit the canvas of the pencil. A simple formula with a magnificent result.

These premium pencils are made in America with extra firm, smooth Japanese graphite. The rounded hexagonal barrel is made of genuine incense cedar and is capped with a chrome-coloured ferrule which holds a square-ended eraser. This eraser is replaceable. The set of 12 pencils includes two of each colour design.

Blackwing pencils were favoured by award-winning creators throughout the 20th century. They were discontinued in the 1990s, despite a cult following. In 2010 Palomino brought Blackwing pencils back for a new generation.
