Named after the famous draughtsman Jean Auguste Dominique Inges (1780-1867), this deckle-edged paper is produced on a cylinder mould. This gives it a fine-ribbed, toothy surface which is suitable for a wide range of dry media such as pencil, chalk, Conte crayon, pastel and red chalk.

Ingres paper is also known as 'laid paper'. The surface of each sheet has a faintly ribbed texture, perfect for holding graphite and soft pastel colour. This surface is characteristic of the traditional hand-made papers of the pre-Industrial age, which were formed in sieve-like moulds of wire mesh which left impressions on the surface of the paper. 'Chain lines' are thicker and widely spaced, while 'laid lines' are thinner and closer together.

Hahnemuhle Ingres paper is sold by the sheet and in gummed pads. Each sheet has four deckle edges and measures 48x62.5cm.
