Made in the UK, Jackson's Indian Ink is formulated with a base of high-quality shellac medium and purified water, providing a clean, smooth and steady flow. When dry the ink forms a water-resistant film, protecting your artworks from being erased. Jackson's Indian Ink may be diluted with water to achieve washes and subtle tones, making it ideal for line and wash pieces.
Our Indian Ink is completely lightfast and permanent. It has an exceptional deep black colour and is suitable for use with a brush, ink pen or airbrush. It is suitable for producing a large variety of artworks and is widely used by designers, calligraphers, artists, and illustrators.
Please note: this ink is not suitable for use with fountain pens. Shake before use.

I use this ink with my dip pen and I’m pleased to say that it’s highly pigmented and super-black without leaving a brown/blue cast. Due to the shellac content, it dries with a lovely sheen which further intensifies the black and also means it is waterproof. It is also permanent and lightfast which is a bonus.Rating
The consistency is great, similar to that of full-fat milk (for want of a better comparison!). It has enough body that it doesn’t roll all over the page, so you can get nice, crisp lines. I like to incorporate a lot of cross-hatching and pointillism in my drawings and it works wonderfully for that. You can also brush it on and create some interesting effects when diluting it with water.
The bottle format is perfect as it allows you to easily decant the product and I prefer it being made from plastic as there’s no worry of the bottle breaking and the ink spilling everywhere. The plastic is easily recyclable or you can use it for decanting used solvents. It’s excellent value for money - the Sennelier Indian ink, for instance, is over 3 times as expensive and I would say this product is at least equal in quality. I renovated an old drop leaf table for my daughter. A quick run over to remove old varnish and then two coats of Indian ink. Result table looks great. One bottle easily enough. Now just made a TV table with shelves for magazines out of old scraps of wood. So I am now ordering two more bottles as left over bottle did first coat. Two bottles because I've got ideas. Oddly, I have not used this product for it's intended purchase, but for dyeing wood, or rather "ebonising" wood...there are many ways to achieve this effect but of all the traditional methods I have tried this worked best, a wonderful, "dead" black...also, it contains shellac, so after drying, it is both UV and water resistant. It has a very low viscocity, and so would be unsuitable for use in fountain pens...Rating
