This fine Chinese Paper is suitable for brush writing, Chinese painting or calligraphy. It is made from mulberry bark in China using a centuries-old manufacturing process. This product is particularly suitable for artists who wish to try Chinese painting but who would rather work on flat sheets rather than rolls or scrolls of paper.
The paper feels somewhere between crisp and soft. It is more absorbent, rough and matt on one side and less absorbent, smoother and shinier on the other. It is a warm off-white colour, and because it is made from natural materials it may show tiny flecks or speckles.
The paper has lengthwise running chain lines (similar to laid lines), but they are only visible as stripes of increased transparency; they are not raised, and you cannot feel them.
This 48 sheet (305mm x 456mm) pad of rice paper is glued along one edge and protected with a plain white front cover and a cardboard back cover. Please remember to remove the page you are working on from the sketchbook, or to place a barrier of some sort between the page you are working from and the page below. This paper is absorbent and very thin - the weight is 35g per square metre - and your ink will otherwise bleed through to the pages below.
