Jackson’s Painting Prize exists to recognise and appreciate original, 2-dimensional fine art works in any painting or drawing media.
Jackson’s Painting Prize is open to all artists of all abilities and at all ages.
Jackson’s Painting Prize costs £5 per artwork to enter and you may submit up to 5 artworks per entrant.
Printmaking, pure photography, computer generated or manipulated artwork and 3D sculptural works are not eligible for selection. Artworks for the competition must be submitted by the artist who created it. Drawings or paintings of an inappropriate or offensive subject matter will be removed from the competition.
All work must be your own intellectual property. This means we will not accept artworks that directly copy other people’s work (this does not include artistic interpretations) or works that are made from a tutorial. We are not accepting entries that have previously won a major competition or that have been extensively exhibited in any established galleries.
Jackson’s Art Supplies may ask for artworks to be sent for further inspection and consideration before or outside of longlist / shortlist / prize winning selection. The winning work must be available for viewing, if requested, and must be like the digital photo submission. We may require a photo of the winner standing in front of their painting for publicity purposes. Please do not submit an image if you do not have access to the original work. Jackson’s Art Supplies will advise on how the prize winner’s photograph should be composed.

Yes, you can submit up to a total of 5 artworks.
Can I submit a piece of work that has already been sold?
No, we may require a photo of the winner standing in front of their painting for publicity purposes. Please do not submit an image if you do not have access to the original.
Can we enter a collaborative artwork?
Yes, submissions from art collectives or collaborations are accepted. Please use the Artist Bio to make it clear that there is more than one behind the work.
Can I enter an artwork that has previously been exhibited or that has won a previous competition?
No, we are not accepting entries that have previously won a competition or that have been extensively exhibited.
I have some pieces three years old that have never been entered for any competitions. Is there an age limit on artworks?
We haven’t put a date limit on the artworks. So long as you still have the artwork in your possession so that we can get a photo of you with the work if you are a winner, the work is eligible.
I am trying to enter the current competition, however, when I click ‘enter here’ it takes me to the following message: “There’s nothing to see here right at the moment - either judging isn’t open, or there are yet any entries to judge. Please check back when judging is open or contact your awards organiser”
This issue is usually solved by clearing your browsing history.

What file type should my image be?
We are accepting jpegs, jpg and png files.
What’s the maximum MB that an image can be?
The maximum file size for each image is 3MB.

I am a photographer. Can I submit a photographic art work (for example a digital or film photograph)?
No, photography is not accepted in this competition.
Can I use photography as part of my process?
Yes, if photography is part of the process of making the work it’s accepted. Pure photography or digitally edited photography is not eligible.

Is monoprint allowed?
No, we are not accepting monoprints.
Are paper collages allowed?
Yes, we are happy to accept paper collage in the competition.
I paint with wool – would that be eligible?
As long as it is still flat and not a 3D object we would be happy to accept it as a painting or drawing medium.
Can it be a painting with clay on it?
A painting with texture will be accepted as long as it isn’t a completely 3D object.
Are encaustic wax works accepted?
Yes, as encaustic wax is often combined with oil paint, we are happy to accept that as a medium for this competition.
I will be entering an oil painting which will have some gold leaf on it, is that ok?
Yes, mixed media works are accepted. An oil painting with gold leaf would be accepted into the competition.
I paint landscapes in oils on slate, MDF and artist palettes. Are these allowed?
Any 2-dimensional substrate would be accepted.

No, printmaking works are not accepted in this competition.
What about paintings with some texture on it. Are they permitted or does it have to be completely flat and strictly 2D?
Many would argue that no painting is completely flat, a painting with texture is fine as long as it isn’t a completely 3D object.

QUESTIONS ABOUT THE AFFORDABLE ART FAIR HAMPSTEAD
Has the Affordable Art Fair Hampstead 2020 been postponed?
Yes. Unfortunately, the Hampstead fair scheduled for Spring has been postponed until Autumn.
A note from the organisers:
“POSTPONED: After careful consideration the Affordable Art Fair Hampstead, due to take place from 30 April – 3 May 2020, will be postponed until the autumn. The decision to postpone the fair has not been taken lightly but we feel it is in everyone’s best interest. Stay tuned as new dates will be announced as soon as possible. Art and culture bring people together, which is especially important in these uncertain times, and we are committed to bringing a spectacular fair to Hampstead Heath later this year.”
