High-quality Swiss made carving tools suitable for either lino or wood cutting. Each tool is made from chrome vanadium steel, precisely forged, sharpened and polished for excellent results. Palm-handles are made of hardwood from ecologically managed Swiss forests.

Full bolster and square tang for optimal stability. Internal steel ferrule under bolster prevents handle from splitting. Tools are hardened to edge of bevel. Blades electronically hardened to exacting tolerances.

I have a small collection of Pfeil tools in a range of gouges that I use for carving traditional grey lino as well as wood blocks. The tools are made from chrome vanadium steel and come pre-sharpened, and the beautifully honed wooden handle sits comfortably in the palm of my hand. These tools are made in Switzerland and are of excellent quality, so will no doubt last a lifetime.

It took a little bit of research for me to decide which size and shape to begin with (there are a couple of great articles on Jackson's Blog which I found very helpful). The first tool that I bought was the 12/1 which is a very fine V gouge and is perfect for precise detail. Once I knew that these tools were for me, I bought a selection of shapes and sizes, including the medium U gouge 11/3 and the shallow U gouge 8/7 which is useful for clearing large areas of lino or wood. I would recommend purchasing one tool initially and then building a collection from there. The gouges you choose will depend on the work that you want to make. There is also a range of sets available which work out quite cost-efficient.
