Pro Arte : Prolene Plus Synthetic Watercolour Brushes
Whilst named to acknowledge its Prolene legacy, the ‘Plus’ represents something special. Still purely synthetic, Prolene Plus employs fibres which are somewhat softer and exude a feel much closer to natural hair. The resulting filament colour, having darker tips, looks even more like sable hair than its predecessor. It has improved colour holding and pointing properties.
Set in a beautiful ferrule which is plated with gold. Polished teak handle completes the brush.
Available in an extensive range of sizes and widely used for watercolour, gouache and other media.

My first Pro Arte brush. I wanted to get a Prolene Plus for a while after hearing good things about them. I'm very impressed. Holds point perfectly, retains plenty of water and paints beautifully. These are the only watercolor brushes I have ever bought that actually shed hair, not just the size 10 but all the sizes I got. For the couple of years that I have been painting I have mainly used mid priced synthetic brushes, so it is not like I am used to top quality. It is really weird that ProArte does not bother to put enough hair into the ferrules, there is certainly room for more. I did some comparing and noticed that the Escoda brushes I have that are cheaper than these have no empty space between hair and ferrule as you bend the hairs. I use the Prolene Plus Series 007 for oils - I won't buy animal hair brushes and the synthetic oil brushes are too coarse for most of my detailed work. Thought i would try this line of brushes to add to my collection............now i have the full range and are my preferred brush of choice.very responsive, hold plenty of pigment and well balanced making them very easy to use.Not found a negative aspect with these brushes at all.highly recommend them !!!!!!! This is such a classy brush to use, it really looks and feels great. Thankfully it does a good job too. The Prolene Plus seems to hold a good amount of fluid (for synthetic) and it keeps its shape really well. The brush has the familiar synthetic spring to it (which I quite like) and the way the fibres are shaped it is able to do relatively fine work or big washes fairly easily. For my controlled washes and wet-in-wet (where a flat brush isnt helpful) this is my 'go to' brush (Posted on 20.08.2015)Rating
