Winsor & Newton : Pure Squirrel Mops
Winsor and Newton's Pure Squirrel Pointed Wash brushes are made from the finest quality Pure Russian Blue Squirrel hair, which is ideal for water colour washes. These hairs are very fine and relatively thin. The brushes are conical in shape with thick bellies, which enables the brush to hold a large amount of colour. They come to a very fine point giving control with washes and the naturally soft hair ensures their responsiveness.
These hand crafted brushes use natural goose quill for the ferrule which is more flexible and responsive than a metal ferrule.
Apart from use with Water Colour, they are useful for gouache, silk painting and any fluid colour application.

I got one of these brushes for doing large watercolour paintings and it has become one of my favourites. Its nice soft bristles make it perfect for big washes and loose skies, and it holds so much water you don't have to keep going back to the water bucket all the time. When wet, it also comes to a pretty decent point, so you can do a little fine detail work if you don't want to have to keep picking up a smaller brush. Given the quality and the size of the brush, the price isn't too bad either. If you do large watercolour paintings I'd recommend trying a Winsor & Newton squirrel mop. I bought the #4. I have to say that this is the best brush I have ever bought. The point is so good, it looks much better than the one in the picture. It is incredible. I have some experience with mops including expensive synthetic squirrel mops and this one has the best point iv ever used on a mop. It is very firm for a squirrel hair brush I think and very easy to manipulate the point. The quality of mine is flawless. Brush feels light and balanced when in use. I can tell it is my new #1 brush. It was packed well. I can not believe how easy this brush make's dry brush marks even on cheap practice paper while brush is full of paint. This brush will change the way I paint.
