Schmincke : Horadam Watercolour Paint : 15ml : Burnt Umber

In order to achieve high standards regarding lightfastness, resolubility and stability, Schmincke Horadam watercolours contains only the finest raw materials.

The paints are bound with Kordofan gum arabic from the southern Sahara. Due to the natural source of the binder, the gum arabic does tend to differ slightly year on year. Schmincke continually test the ingredient and the best of the batch is selected to ensure the highest quality is achieved. This means paint which has dried onto your palette can be easily re-wetted and painted with again. Among the range are 139 colours, with 95 single pigment hues for clean mixing.

I am still trying to make up a watercolour palette of Schminke colours. When I squeezed out some Burnt Umber on to a piece of A4 660 gm Khadi paper to make a colour chart I was astounded when I wet the Burnt Umber because it was so very very intense. What a beautiful warm brown. Like many other Shcminke colours that have I have tried they need a lot of water to make a thin wash. The intense dark with blues for greys I can use for those last strokes to bring a painting together. I am absolutely delighted. (Posted on 19/07/2019)
