I usually use my sketchbooks to do rough sketches, thumbnails and brainstorms, so I generally prefer a smaller one like an A5 size so it’s easy to carry around with me. This sketchbook is the perfect size, and although it’s hardcover, it’s still very lightweight. The spiral binding is exactly to my preference, as I’m able to slide the front cover back easily so it’s tucked at the back of the sketchbook. The cover is pleasingly slightly textured, and although it’s very cheap, the paper inside and the item itself is still of a decent quality.Rating
I mostly use my sketchbooks for pen and pencil sketching, so I prefer a smooth paper, and this is of an ideal smoothness for my purposes.The paper is 150gsm, so it’s more lightweight than a standard watercolour, but as I’m not looking to create masterpieces, this is fine for me to paint on as well if I want to do some sketchy ink, gouache or watercolour paintings. The paper surface won’t fray like printer or lighter cartridge papers might, and it can absorb water decently well. Naturally there will be some buckling (as there would be for any unstretched paper), but as I’m just looking to make rough drawings or paintings, this is still fine for me. Colours come out fresh and vibrant, and the paper’s still strong enough not to break down when water and paint is applied. (Posted on 10/08/2022)
