Citrus fragranced, environmentally friendly solvent that is well suited to add to painting mediums and cleaning brushes

Zest-it Oil Paint Dilutant and Brush Cleaner is an alternative to 'turps' and white spirit, has a long active strength and can be re-used many times for brush washing.

Our Tip

Over time the sediment of used Zest It sinks to the bottom leaving perfectly clear Zest It that is ready to be re-used. For this reason it is a great idea to have several vessels of Zest It on the go in rotation, so that the sediment in each bottle has time to sink to the bottom. You can then decanter the clean Zest it into a clean bottle to keep it as clean as possible.

Only a small amout is need for thinning paint and it dries without leaving any residue.
More artists are looking for safer alternative solvents, for many Zest-it has become the safer studio solvent of choice.

I feel I must write to you with some comments on the product ""Zest-it"" which I recently purchased from you.As an artist who works mainly in oils, I use quite a lot of artist quality turps and ordinary white spirit. The drawback being the smell they have. I have used ""Zest-it"" for, (A) Cleaning my brushes, I feel that your product has a slight edge over white spirit in its cleaning qualities. (B) As a medium for doing initial washes over a white canvas, I found this to be excellent, even though I have found it does take longer to dry which, is not really a problem. (C) As a medium when mixed with one part linseed oil, three parts Zest-it, for slightly thinning the paint or when used as a wash on the canvas, it gives excellent results. The extra bonus for me, is the aroma it lets off, it is far better than the smell of turps. I now do not have to burn a couple of scented candles whilst I am painting. Many Thanks. (Posted on 20/08/2015)

Wonderful Zest It - once you try it you won't go back to solvents! Although I don't mind the smell of turpentine I can't handle it after a long session in the studio, and it often leaves with me with a raging headache. White Spirit I won't even go near unless I absolutely have to - and both have a nasty effect on my hands if I use them to clean my brushes. Zest It has a smell that is rather more refreshing - citrus-y, as the name would suggest! And may not be to everyone's liking but it is definitely less headache inducing. And it is JUST as effective as turps. Also fantastic to use in mediums - I use equal measures of stand linseed oil to zest it and mix this with oil colour to apply thin layers of translucent colour. It is kinder to your skin and kinder to your brushes, and kinder to the environment, but you do need to rinse everything with water thoroughly after use as it is very strong, and don't be fooled by its pleasant smell into thinking it's drinkable!! Naturally, all this goodness comes at a price, but for me it is a price worth paying. Couldn't come more highly recommended. By Lisa (Posted on 20/08/2015)

Ordering was easy and my order was acknowledged quickly. The products were at a very competitive price and the free delivery of £39 pounds made it a no brainer to order from Jacksons. Jackson's was recommended to me from a friend and I’m glad she did. (Posted on 30/10/2014)
