Freedom in Painting in the Cornish Coastal Landscape is a course that truly encourages painters of all levels to find their individual voice and express what they observe, as well as how they feel about the wonder and beauty of the Cornish Coast. The aim of the course is that rather than try to imitate the landscape, we need to invent, challenge and surprise ourselves by transforming nature into something that is ours.
Certainly moved me out of my box! Very interesting concepts , Ashley talks inspiringly. Good course, food delicious and very friendly environment.
Birgit Ackroyd, September 2013, Isle of Wight
The course is structured as follows: Painters spend 2 days on location, (day 1 in the north coast and day two in the south coast) followed by two full days in the studio, where the group will be able to develop their field studies and with lead tutor Ashley Hanson’s expert assistance, take their paintings further, exploring mark-making, colour, space, composition and the possibilities in painting.
As a way of supporting his art practice Ashley Hanson and his wife Denise run 2 painting holidays a year down in Cornwall .
