About the artists' blog
Welcome to Jackson’s Art Blog, a source of reliable, specialist, and educational content for artists at every skill level.
Founded in 2009, our blog is a space for artists to learn, reflect, and deepen their understanding of both practice and materials. Across our articles, you’ll find insights from practising artists who share their experiences in the studio, from first experiments to finished work. We offer perspectives from inside the studio – where ideas take form, materials are tested, and techniques evolve through experience.
We explore art by examining the rich history of colours, materials, and techniques – connecting these traditions to studio practices today. By exploring the evolution of materials, we look at how artists through the ages have worked, adapted, and responded to the possibilities of their time – and how this knowledge continues to shape material understanding today.
We aim to demystify art materials – supporting artists of all backgrounds by providing inspiration, practical guidance and technical expertise grounded in first-hand knowledge from inside the studio. Through this, we offer a deeper insight into how artists work and how creative thinking develops over time.
Join us in the studio for creative reflections, helpful advice, and thoughtful approaches to art making.
Please send catalogue- Thank you
Hi Denis
We will send one to you today.
How do I access buying costs/info for Saunders Waterford bright white and Fabriano-Artistico eExtra White on line?
Hi Stan
If you click on the underlined part of the article that is a link to the paper on our website and you can see the prices. They go down per sheet as you buy larger quantities.
If you go to our website you can enter Fabriano Extra White as a search term and find the papers that way or look in the category of watercolour papers and see all the types we stock. Here is a link straight to that paper in glued blocks and loose sheets.
I hope this helps.
We will send you a catalogue today to the address you mentioned.

Hi Can I ask where you got the name Jacksons from – is it the name of the owners or just a name? Sorry for the strange question just interested int he history behind it 🙂
Hi Rosey!
I wouldn’t want to say “it’s made up” because that doesn’t really tell the story.
I have asked the director if he would write a bit about the history of Jackson’s.
But in short for now – After gaining lots of experience in art materials retailing and customer services by starting first as a 2-man business and growing it from there – he chose the name Jackson’s, although not his own, because it sounded traditional, hardworking and reliable, all traits he wanted to bring to the business.
I use Jacksons mail order for my art class supplies and find them very good. Good prices prompt service.

Hi, Just a suggestion following a little confusion returning an item. There is no reference (I can find) anywhere in your catalogue or on the website as to return address, despite there being a “returns” trigger at the bottom of the page.
You have to speak to someone (never an arduous task, I hasten to add!) to find out that returns are made to the Gloucester shop, and looking at the “our shops” page, no mention is made that this is the returns address.
Could I suggest that a reference is made somewhere, both in your catalogue and on the website, that returns should be made to Gloucester?
Other than that, superb range of sensibly priced products, wonderful service, lovely, helpful young ladies to speak to when you do need help, it’s no wonder that Jackson’s (whoever he is!) enjoys the reputation it does!
Best regards,
Jeff Langley.
Thanks for the suggestion, Jeff. We will add the information to our website.
Thank you also for the lovely compliments 🙂 We will try to keep up the good work!
Hi
I plan to come to london from overseas and before making a stop at Jackson Fulham store to acquire specific Daniel Smith watercolor colors i can’t find in my country, can you tell me if all colors are available at this store ?
Best regards
Hi Sophie. Yes, our Fulham shop has the Daniel Smith watercolours.
I hope you enjoy your visit to London 🙂
Hi
Can Montana GOLD Orange Brown spray paint be used to spray black suede/nubuck boots (for a fancy dress outfit)?
Hi Claire.
It might change the texture of the boots but a light coating should work ok.
Be aware of overspray, so put masking tape over any parts you don’t want coloured. And do it in a well ventilated area as it is not good to breathe.
