New at Jackson’s Art!
Imported from the USA.
We’re very pleased to now stock Mount Vision Pastels, 409 colours in singles plus 18 sets.
Mount Vision Soft Pastels are gorgeous, large, soft, hand-rolled pastels in a range of 409 colours. Mount Vision is a small, artist-owned company and the beautiful pastels are made by Karl Kelly, former principal paint maker at Williamsburg Handmade Oils. His pigment knowledge is put to good use in this new range, with each pastel composed of a precise ratio of colour to binder that’s designed to show the pigment at its finest. As Karl Kelly says: “My experience as a painter who frequently uses pastels drove me to create a high quality, affordable pastel for the discerning artist who sees beyond the expected when it comes to color.”
Generously Proportioned

Soft pastel brands left to right:
Blue Earth, Terry Ludwig, Unison, Jackson’s Handmade. Sennelier, Schmincke, Daler Rowney, Mount Vision, Rembrandt.
After the scrumptious colour the next thing you notice about the Mount Vision pastels is their generous size. At 14x70mm they are over twice as large as some pastels and so are a good value.
Packaged in simple brown corrugated cardboard boxes with a thick slotted foam insert, the pastels are well protected.
Mount Vision pastels offer both a soft feel and resistance to breakage.
The texture of a soft pastel is very important and most pastel artists like a range of softness and hardness in their pastel collection because each technique uses a different hardness, with detail work and blending usually requiring a slightly harder pastel. Mount Vision Soft Pastels are firm and durable pastels that still maintain a soft texture. Most artists describe the Mount Vision pastels as medium soft – not as soft as Schmincke or Terry Ludwig, not as crumbly as Sennelier, not as hard as Rembrandt or Art Spectrum.
They are soft enough to easily lay down colour but hard enough for some detail work and to not break when you use them.
Colour Selection Sets
In addition to purchasing any of the 409 colours singly you can also choose from 18 colour selection sets.
Many artist rave about the Thunderstorm Grey selection set as being perfect for painting dramatic skies.
The Chromatic Colours selection set is a range of full saturation colours. “It’s the colour wheel in a box!”
Mount Vision Process and Ingredients
They use no heavy metal or other toxic pigments such as Cobalt or Cadmium and instead use synthetic alternatives because when using pastels you are directly handling the pigment.
