Tel Aviv-based artist Johnathan Reiner, currently training as a neurologist, dissects ‘objective’ and ‘universal’ ideals, and reveals them to be socially constructed concepts, not hard-wired into our brains, but imposed on us by the culture we live in. The exhibition features Dr. Reiner’s female portraiture works, which challenge both historical and contemporary representations of female beauty.

The condition of liminality is a state of transition, of suspension on the threshold between one place, time or state of mind and another. It involves ambiguity, uncertainty and the dissolution of order: identities and outcomes are thrown into doubt. It speaks of borderlands, faultlines and indeterminate places.
The exhibition features painting, print, photography, film, installation and sculpture by Richard Brayshaw, Deborah Burnstone, Janet Curley Cannon, Robert Fitzmaurice, Nick Hazzard, Maria-Lena Hedberg, Stephanie Herbert, Alison Lumb, Maureen Nathan, Rosey Prince, Ann Simberg, Sally Tyrie, Jim Vernon, Erika Wengenroth, Edward Winters. Organised by Carlos de Lins. Private View: Thursday 1 December 6-9pm.
