Season 5, Episode 8: Interview with Edd Ralph, Senior Editor at Search Press Publishers

In this episode, Peter and Tom interview Edd Ralph about his role as Senior Editor at Search Press Publishers; the leading supplier of Arts & Crafts books in the UK.
In the first part of the episode, Edd gives us a potted history of the company and discusses his role as Senior Editor as well as sharing what he enjoys most about his job. He also discusses some of the main differences between working with a publishing house and self-publishing and guides us through the process of creating a practical art book.

Tom, Peter and Edd also talk about the relevance of physical books in amongst all of the digital and online content available today and touch upon the wide variety of books, designed for a range of creative abilities, which Search Press produce.

In the second part of the episode, Edd shares his experience of why creatives might choose to write a book and the benefits it can bring to your practice; not just the direct monetary reward but also the profile building aspect and the often lesser considered benefit of the meditative opportunity to focus on your practice.

Peter, Tom and Edd conclude the episode by agreeing that embarking on writing a book is most certainly a big task! Edd talks through all the practical elements of publishing a book; things you will need to consider and other people who can help you if you were to decide to go it alone and self-publish. On the other hand, if you decide that working with the support of a publishing house would be better for you, he also shares some practical advice and tips on how to approach one, what to consider and what to expect when pitching an idea.
