Now in its fifth year, the Hampstead Art Fair Day organised in association with the Hampstead School of Art as part of the Hampstead Summer Festival recently went ahead in the stunning natural surroundings of Hampstead Heath in North West London. As part of the fair, Jackson’s partnered with Hampstead School of Art to present a £100 Jackson’s Prize to one artwork created during the School’s yearly event ‘Paint the Heath’. London-based Peruvian artist Patricia Trautman’s oil painting ‘A View on the Heath’ was announced as the winner, as selected by British comedian and writer David Baddiel.
Patricia’s winning artwork was created at Hampstead Heath while painting en plein air alongside other artists who took part in the ‘Paint the Heath’ event in June. Selected works were then showcased as part of an outdoor exhibition during the Hampstead Art Fair Day on June 26, which drew in over 5,000 people, and saw creative workshops, performance, music and art coming together outdoors.
“Painting the Heath was a fantastic experience! Inspiring and breathtaking”, says artist Patricia Trautman. “I live five minutes from it, so I absolutely love spending time there with my kids and dog. Painting en plein air has its challenges as we are at the mercy of the weather. Nevertheless, I find painting quite a mindful exercise. I chose to paint this piece on the Heath on dibond, a new type of board that I have been experimenting with. The painting took me two days to complete, around ten hours and it was mainly wet on wet.”
Registration for next year’s Hampstead Art Fair Day event (2017) is now open: contact the Hampstead School of Art Office at firstname.lastname@example.org for more information; places are limited.
