Info
Museum Aquarelle pencils from Caran d'Ache are among the best watercolour pencils available. The high concentration of extra fine pigments with excellent water-solubility rivals even the finest artist watercolours, let alone watercolour pencils.
When drawn on dry the pencils perform as well as the very best non watersoluble colours, such as Luminance, which is surprising as sometimes watercolour pencils do not appear with as much colour brilliance as their non-water-soluble counterparts.
When a wet brush is dragged across the pencil marks, the colour that disperses in watery pools is lustrous and brilliant. Lesser pencils demonstrate a much lower concentration of colour in washes. Use alongside watercolour to apply very fine detail to your work, or use alone with the freedom to apply very dilute colour as well as very thick bold undiluted marks, all with the same pencil.

Probably the best watercolor pencil
Although they may cost a bit more, these pencils offer several significant advantages. The color clarity and intensity is superior. They blend more smoothly, allowing little evidence that the marks were made by pencil, not paint. This is the bridge between practical portability and pro quality. Caran d’Ache should reposition this product line by providing the same level of data one finds with finer quality watercolor paint — pigments, lightfastness, staining, hue angle, etc. Highly recommended. And if you seek something close to this, try the pro grade Faber-Castell Dürer watercolor pencils.
