Speedball’s Speedy-Carve Blocks are designed for relief printmaking. They have a soft, putty-like surface which is easier to cut than traditional linoleum, and are designed for use with linocutting tools. As they are flexible, Speedy-Carve Blocks can be used to print onto flat or curved surfaces.
As in linocutting, the desired design is cut in reverse into the surface of the block with gouges or knives. Watersoluble or oil-based ink is then transferred to the raised, uncut areas of the block using a roller/brayer. The design can be printed onto paper or fabric, in a press or by hand.
The blocks are latex-free and come in sizes varying from 3 x 4in to 12 x 12in.
