We have just received the new Montana acrylic marker pens. They are acrylic paint in a felt tip pen. The pen has a sturdy hard felt tip that comes in 5 widths – from fine to a super-wide 50mm.
Sophia has used them to do some work on paper and she reports the following:
•strong, good coverage
•no streaky lines
•dries super fast
•layers really well
•similar to Posca pens
•better selection of tip sizes and shapes
•available empty and with refills
•you can see how much you have used up
She will try them on canvas at the weekend and I will update you.

The optimum flow control pump-valve system allows accurate handling and application. Quick drying. For interior & exterior use.
Wow, these sound interesting!
Hi Chloe
Yes, they do don’t they. I have a few to try and am looking forward to it.
Just wondering does the ink dry on the nib when you’ve finished – how do you stop it drying up so you can use them next time?
Can you varnish over the top?
Can you send me some and I’ll review them…lol worth a try!
Hi Sharon.
Sophia paints with acrylic paint and says the Montana pens feel and act like acrylic paint in a pen. And yet it doesn’t dry in the nib. We were wondering about this ourselves so asked our distributor and they didn’t know. So we are planning on contacting the manufacturer. For now all we can figure is that it is somehow like an acrylic ink.
Yes, you can varnish over the top, it is like acrylic paint when dry- and Sophia says it dries super-fast.
Thanks for the review offer 🙂 Wish we could send samples but even Sophia paid for hers.
But, you can get a free brush if you write a review of a product for our blog and there is a new feature of a prize for the best review each month.
Are these markers lightfast enough to use for exhibition/fine art work? The colours look really vibrant in the PDF.
This sound fab for an old boot like me when even glasses are failing! I work in acrylics sometimes – seduced by the speed they dry. Will definately try these pens if they work ok on canvas blocks.
They work on most any surface. Give them a try and let us know what you think 🙂
Hi. I paint on rocks and pebbles. I use acrylic paint and then I use varnish or mod podge to seal them. I have tried several permanent fine liners but they tend to bleed when I varnish. Its annoying as some of my creations call for fine line work.
Would your pens be the answer?
Hi Jean
I think that acrylic paint in a pen might be just the answer for you.
It dries and is waterproof, like regular acrylic paint.
Here are the finer tip acrylic markers:
