New at Jackson’s
The Gelli Plate in an 8-inch round shape!
The new Gelli Monoprinting plates have become quite popular with our customers!
Gelli Arts Gel Printing Plates have the appearance and feel of gelatin plates, but are durable, reusable and can be stored at room temperature. Gel Printing Plates are easy to clean and are always ready for printing. When monoprinting on a Gelli plate the technique is simple and the gratification is immediate.
They are made for hours of experimentation, texture and layering. The process usually involves rolling a thin layer of ink or paint onto the plate, adding objects to act as masks or stencils, removing part of the ink with textured objects and then rubbing a smooth paper over the surface to pick up the paint. You can usually pull 2 prints off of one inking, with the ‘ghost print’ being the lighter second print that is often even more lovely! The painterly prints are called monoprints or monotypes as they cannot be repeated in an edition, but are one-of-a-kind. The process produces a different effect than straight painting as the paint is very thin and smooth so looks translucent.
The soft, jelly-like plate allows for a good transfer of detail from your objects. You can also use the Gelli Plate for a version of collagraph prints where you build up a textured surface and use the relief to create patterns in your ink. Original prints without a press!

When monoprinting on Gelli Plates it is recommended to use Golden Open acrylics because they are perfect together!

Gelli plates are the best, I love using mine, everyone should have a gelli plate.
That’s a great recommendation, Claire!
