Upcoming Gilding Workshop Series
An introductory course to gilding with master gilder Marisa Delpoio, including traditional oil based and water based techniques. Marisa was born and grew up in Lambeth. She has a history of a range of art education, but finally trained as a gilder, and has lectured at Lambeth College and the British Museum. Whilst lecturing at Lambeth College Marisa also wrote the City & Guilds Lacquering course, and we are delighted to have her lead these workshops.
This 6-part series of workshops that will be held in our East London shop in September and October, 2014 will teach you everything you need to know about working with metal leafs and powders.
In Module 1-3 a master gilder will teach you traditional techniques for preparing a gesso base and other foundation techniques. Then you will progress to gilding with metal leaf and metal powders. Additional specialist techniques are covered in Module 4 Gilding on Glass and Module 6 Restoration of gilded artefacts. If you would like a shorter overview Module 5 Decorative Craft Gilding will provide basic gilding skills for students wanting to gild as a hobby.
This series of courses will teach you what you need to know to add genuine gold to your paintings, icons, mirrored signs, carved frames and more.
